Your Exit day at your Office

Everyday is someone’s exit day in office…here… there…anywhere…everywhere… This is a day which I believe comes in everyone’s tenure in an organization; the reasons may be different for every individual. Apart from the other formalities; exit meeting is essential for an employee and employer both in their own respective way. This is an important task for the HR Manager to have a clear discussion with the employee on his/her last working day in the organization. Mostly, these interviews are conducted after a mundane task of filling up a form with 100s of questions about the reason for exit and a standard question about the areas of improvement for the company. There are certain dos and don’ts to consider before you sit for this meeting: Do not allow your emotions to come in between you and the company; this meeting could be a learning experience for you and the managers. Firstly, ask him to explain in his own words why he is leaving the company. Gently dig deeper. Is there anything you or

Meaning

Meaning is not something you stumble across, like the answer to a riddle or the prize in a treasure hunt. Meaning is something you build into your life. You build it out of your own past, out of your affections and loyalties, out of the experience of humankind as it is passed on to you, out of your own talent and understanding, out of the things you believe in, out of the things and people you love, out of the values for which you are willing to sacrifice something. The ingredients are there. You are the only one who can put them together into that pattern that will be your life. Let it be a life that has dignity and meaning for you. If it does, then the particular balance of success or failure is of less account. John Gardner Reference: FISH Book

FISH Philosophy!!!

Sometime back my colleague gave a presentation on the FISH Philosophy; it is a theory from John Christensen; which was derived by placing cameras in fish market to study the behaviour of workers working actively. As the book suggests, “When we choose to love the work we do, we can catch our limit of happiness, meaning and fulfillment every day.” The study shows how 75% of normal human life is consumed in work related areas as going to office, spending time in working and other such meagre activities and by the time Friday appears everyone sighs and says “Thank God its Friday” and gives their 100% of the energy. The promoters and writer proudly shares that this book will benefit the managers which will indeed increase employee retention and motivate people to take pride in what they do; so it says no work is small you should perform your duties with pride and enthusiasm. The story is a parable; an invented story about finding the deep source of energy, creativity and passion that exists

Eclipse

Image
Two weeks back I watched ‘Eclipse’ the sequel of ‘Twilight’ and ‘New Moon’; respectively. The movie is based on the Twilight saga written by Stephenie Meyer. As always the story revolves around the three protagonists of the movie; Edward, Bella and Jacob; where the author lets Jacob - the dashing werewolf 'eclipse' Edward. The competition between the two Edward and Jacob is very much prevalent in the movie; as the story moves on the competition between two of them takes a harder road ever after. The love triangle forecast that was clearly seen between Edward, Bella and Jacob in New Moon executes in Eclipse. Jacob; keeping every stone un-turned confesses his love for Bella. He states he is warm and alive, unlike Edward which makes him a better match for Bella. Bella is however desperate to take her relationship with Edward to next level while Edward disapproves of Bella jeopardizing her life and family for him. To add to the dilemmas of the trio is vampire Victoria who comes ba

Shubh Arambh

Image
Imagine you are about to start a new business or sign a deal or there is any auspicious moment you always share sweets before you start the work. Same is shown in the new ad from Dairy Milk with a new tagline “Shubh Arambh”; means “A good Start”. Cadbury always comes with new ad campaigns with the time and situation. The positioning of the chocolates have been substituted with sweets; as earlier for every good reason sweets were distributed; and now for every celebration/ auspicious occasion chocolates are given and even more; for every ‘Shubh Arambh’/ new beginning chocolates are shared. The company is playing with the emotional quotient of the viewers where it is clearly shown the transition of the acceptability of chocolates which over-shadowed the concept of sharing sweets. The ad starts with a sweet teenage girl relishing the chocolate bar and suddenly a college going lad comes to her and asks if she can give him a piece of chocolate; astonishly she asks him do I know you? The lad

Restructure your Corporate Model

This is a common scenario with the corporate houses where the organizational structures are re-aligned for smoother operations in an organization. There are many compromises the Company has to do as per the requirements of the NEW management. One of the challenges faced by them would be studying the work graph of the employees and make them adjust in the new environment and accept the changes. It is said that changes are inevitable but changes should be accepted with open hands by the employees. The companies should come out of the shell of the BIG CORPORATE and should study their own SWOT and act on; the action and the analysis areas may be inside or outside their pre-determined shell. There can be lot many reasons for restructuring…be it less performance, all talks- no work, only work---no talks, no clear goal, no direction, no decision….and many more…everyone needs a change and a better change. With the advent of restructuring in the company the employee would be little skeptical as

New face of Currency

Image
Recently; the symbol of Indian currency was finalized from 3000 entries; the winner will be awarded a huge amount. The numerical representation for the Indian rupee, which is a mix of the Devanagri ‘Ra’ and Roman ‘R’ will easily distinguish the Indian currency from other currencies from Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Indonesia. The new symbol is the 5th one to join the club of currencies as US$, Euro €, Pound £ and Japanese Yen¥. The theme given to contestants was to play around with the Hindi letter Ra with two lines to “reflect and capture the Indian ethos and culture”. Personally, if I have to rate this symbol then I would say the symbol dint made any first appeal to me; I do respect the mind game of Udaya Kumar from IIT in creating this symbol; but I am happy that Indian currency will be differentiated well now with a new symbol. The Unexpected Trip

Image
Sometimes, it happens when you have to go somewhere you reach some other place; here I would say: Jana tha manipal/mangalore pahunch gaye Mumbai; samajh gaye na Yes, after planning a lot; I got ready to visit Manipal with my sister last week; but as the destiny plays; it played with us also our plan got changed and we got down at Mumbai and planned to spend our days there and enjoy the pleasurable activities of the Rain God. With no other alternative to wait till Monday as we had to visit the University; we planned to go to Khandala & Lonavala for a day. During rainy season Mumbai is very different as it is otherwise; anyways we were staying in the New Mumbai area which is having much broader lanes; nice highways which easily shows how the mountains have covered the road lanes from all the sides. After the morning tea; we went to our drive to the interesting destination with couple of halts in between; we crossed down the lane enjoying every second with the Rain God and without Sun

Rajneeti or Rajya ki Neeti

Last night only I saw the latest bollywood flick named Rajneeti; the story which has been written from the plot of the hindu epic ‘Mahabharta’. It also gives an overview of the much renowned Gandhi family from the pages of Indian Politics. I could easily relate with the movie because: 1: I had watched the whole series of the epic couple of times; and the characters/story-line was relative to what is shown in the movie. 2: I had read the biography of Indira Gandhi; which clearly shows how as a small kid Indira had attended the political meetings; how she fell in love with her husband, how her sons were killed; in nutshell her journey from a bright student from the family till playing a major role in Indian politics and creating a place of her family to continue the league till today. As mentioned earlier; the incidents in the movie also clearly shows the rivalry between the second line generation of a high profile political family and how the marriage alliances are made; it would be app

Social Networking

Image
It is said your presence is easily felt online when you are into blogging; actively involved in social networking and such similar online avenues. Recently I gave small talk on the Social Networking and media and below are some of the facts we discussed: Social Networking can be easily described as the interaction between a group of people who share a common interest; using social contacts to network; using internet's network groups. It is a phenomenon that has recently taken over the web, allowing more connectivity & interaction between web users; it also allows participation and engagement . Connecting and interacting thru social networking is also considered as the paradigm shift in communication world. While it helps giving true feedback where a real conversation is involved and free focus groups are there for all. It gives a chance to reach and find new supporters as well. The sharing points on the social network are Information, Opinions, Ideas and Emotions sharing. The

You resemble Chocolate today...

Hey the sunlight color suits you; Today you are looking as a chocolate factory The apple color reflects on your face Everyday a new color, which resembles Fruit, ice cream, sunlight, chocolate etc…. There are days when your skin shines with the color you are wearing and you get compliments from everyone. Everyday if you resemble a fruit/ chocolate/ ice cream/ sunlight you try to find out why this all is happening? Why you are compared with these many names; last month only I saw a small kid who was looking just like strawberry; when he was wearing blood red t-shirt; he was very cute little boy with cute smile and clear complexion. Recently I was wearing the most demanded sunlight color as if I was sharing the sunlight or I resemble a sun flower…etc....later when dark brown came in my wardrobe that day I was chocolate ice-cream, choco dip, a chocolate factory. Many times I wonder how the clothing colors reflect on the face; does it depends on the skin type or it depends on the cloth or

Image
April is always a month of celebration for me...to add the list this time it was my office celebration on the occasion of completing 10 years since inception... It was not only a dance and dine party but this comprised of cake cutting, felicitation of some of the employees, performances from some of our colleagues...it feels good to be a part of the organization which has proudly completed a decade with many ups and downs...our family comprises of around 100 employees working together in different departments. The colour of the day was mauve...many of them were wearing the same colour including me;) At the entrance only we saw each other that we are sharing same color and same mood...the looks were dashing...so was mine...lol...that was I was told...thanks for all the complements... I also loved sharing dance floor with my friends till the last beat of music...dance which is in my blood was coming in full energetic breeze...within small breaks I was inviting my colleagues also on the f

Birthdays are always special...April 15th was my darling sister's b'day...after the 00hours surprise and chocolate facial her ph started ringing....but the most awaited call was still not there...it was from her best friend...which was a pre-plan. Night passed...morning passed...evening approached...the b'day gal was enjoying in office...after receiving gifts she threw a small ice-cream party there. Suddenly, I received a call from her that I am in front of your office and come we'll have fun together. It was still 1 hour for my office watch to struck 7pm...she came up at reception and sat there for a while...everyone said its your replica only...I packed my bags and went out with her....we enjoyed the evening out for sometime...simultaneously talking to her best friend that she will be coming home to give her a surprise... Leadership

A good leader is one who serves his ideas in a decorated platter and allows picking & choosing the required potion for ourselves. Something of this sort happened with me couple of days back while having a discussion with my boss he explained a good way of prioritizing my work, he also taught me how I can add value to the work assigned. In any ways the discussion was great which helped me to learn the major aspects as to how a leader should act on certain issues with the peers and subordinates. The lesson clicked in my mind when he shared his experiences and explained with my context. He has always helped all of us to carve the leader in us; thru this post I would like to thank him for enlightening and helping us in making aware of what we are. Don’t know whether he will ever read this post or not; I wanted to write this from the day when it happened but anyhow it got delayed. It is always said a session with boss can show you both the sides of coin, black or white but it depends on

A Date with Sea- 2

In continuation of my last blog, here I'll help my readers to picture my tour memories in their mind...here it goes... Last week when I visited Daman with my friends; the fun unlimited express was continuously running on full speed. I believe any trip which is without adventure is not worth it; this trip also started with adventure and twists and turns. After the final planning which was continuing from last couple of months; where we had included some key people with whom we would enjoy spending time and do whatever we love to. The excitement in everyone’s mind was jumping high; this was followed with the strategic meeting with what who will drink and eat and making certain other plans as well to make the trip hip & happening. But the last moment change in plan which was made foreseeing other plan which never happened and coz of this twist some of the main people from the list were wiped out from the tour plan. With the final list the plan was finalized and ready to execute; a

10:10

Ever wondered why the time shown in unused clocks or the clocks in the showcase are always showing same time...i.e. 10:10 ... Since long I was trying to find out the answer for the same and could get some answers which are: -During the second world war Hiroshima and Nagasaki was attacked(as we all know); the first bomb was dropped at 10:10AM and in rememberance of all the victims the unused clocks show this time. -Some also say this something to do with the death of Abraham Lincoln ... -It has also been suggested that the 10:10 position is used because it resembles a smile:) -One marketing funda says that the Company name of the watch is written just below 12 and when the clock strucks 10:10 it is clearly visible. Still my search is ON to find out more answers for the same...and would love to know from you... An idea can change your life

Image
An idea can change your life!!! This is the tag-line of Idea; which is famous for its nice and creative ads spreading social message. Be it ‘Walk-when-you-talk’ or the latest one where it shares the message to ‘Use mobile and Save paper’ and at last Save Trees. The ad campaign by Lowe Lintas is very much in the everyday discussions and is very well accepted by the general public. The ad is planned with ‘What if’s, there is a silent ‘what if’ after every thought. What if trees are not there anymore? What if the land is not able to fertilize? What if everything is finished? What if…what if….With all these questions there comes an answer to start using cell phones for every little information you want in day today life; then came an e-revolution and newspapers, menu, boarding passes, certificates, music notes and every little information for which paper was used now people are using cell phones and helping trees to grow. The “what an idea sirji” tagline is also very appropriately used at

Twilight

Image
"About 3 things I was absolutely positive. First, Edward was a vampire. Second, there was a part of him and I didn't know how dominant that part might be that thirsted for my blood. And third, I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him." These are the words written on the paperback of the novel Twilight written by Stephenie Meyers , the novel shares the romance between a shy school going girl Bella and a vampire Edward; who belongs to the Cullens’ family. Bella Swan who is the daughter of Chief of Police moves back to Forks and stays with her father while her mother was out with her new husband. Initially Bella never liked the weather in Forks where sun was counted as one of the most irregular visitors in the town; but the twists and turns in her life made her like rather love the town. Her interesting time with twists and turns starts on the very first day at the school when she met Edward Cullen one of the adopted son from Dr. Cullen’s family. His weird beh
