Meaning

Meaning is not something you stumble across, like the answer to a riddle or the prize in a treasure hunt. Meaning is something you build into your life. You build it out of your own past, out of your affections and loyalties, out of the experience of humankind as it is passed on to you, out of your own talent and understanding, out of the things you believe in, out of the things and people you love, out of the values for which you are willing to sacrifice something. The ingredients are there. You are the only one who can put them together into that pattern that will be your life. Let it be a life that has dignity and meaning for you. If it does, then the particular balance of success or failure is of less account. John Gardner Reference: FISH Book

FISH Philosophy!!!

Sometime back my colleague gave a presentation on the FISH Philosophy; it is a theory from John Christensen; which was derived by placing cameras in fish market to study the behaviour of workers working actively. As the book suggests, “When we choose to love the work we do, we can catch our limit of happiness, meaning and fulfillment every day.” The study shows how 75% of normal human life is consumed in work related areas as going to office, spending time in working and other such meagre activities and by the time Friday appears everyone sighs and says “Thank God its Friday” and gives their 100% of the energy. The promoters and writer proudly shares that this book will benefit the managers which will indeed increase employee retention and motivate people to take pride in what they do; so it says no work is small you should perform your duties with pride and enthusiasm. The story is a parable; an invented story about finding the deep source of energy, creativity and passion that exists
