Social Networking

It is said your presence is easily felt online when you are into blogging; actively involved in social networking and such similar online avenues.

Recently I gave small talk on the Social Networking and media and below are some of the facts we discussed:

Social Networking can be easily described as the interaction between a group of people who share a common interest; using social contacts to network; using internet's network groups. It is a phenomenon that has recently taken over the web, allowing more connectivity & interaction between web users; it also allows participation and engagement.

Connecting and interacting thru social networking is also considered as the paradigm shift in communication world. While it helps giving true feedback where a real conversation is involved and free focus groups are there for all. It gives a chance to reach and find new supporters as well. The sharing points on the social network are Information, Opinions, Ideas and Emotions sharing.

The connectivity gives an impact on the personal, professional and organizational front; as: personal front: sharing photos-movies, searching employment, blogging. On professional front: collaborations, spreading a corporate message, advertising the product, imparting training. Lastly, on the organizational level: it helps in fund raising, spreading awareness for any upcoming events, reaching to a worldwide audience.

With the revolution in the digital field there are many things which are no longer available in Printed Formats; like:
• Airline Tickets
• Boarding Passes
• Magazines
• Newspapers
• Books
• Text Books

In nutshell social media is all about to see what people say about your brand/ product, to create a “Buzz” about your product and moreover to engage in conversations.

Some of the examples of the social networking websites are Facebook; Twitter, linkedin, you tube; it is also said that “if Facebook were a country. It would be the 7th most populated in the world”

Apart from the lighter side of making presence in social networking there are many darker sides of the same. The users’ information is not kept secret; the information in your profile can be viewed and used by the connections of your profile. The privacy policy is such of the website that the connected people can view your profile in detail in which you can select some fields which will easily be shown to them on one click.

As Social Networking came as a boon to the internet working; it also has its darker image for which few countries have blocked accessibility of the same which may in-turn help to protect the vital information of the users and respect the cyber law.

FISH Philosophy!!!

Sometime back my colleague gave a presentation on the FISH Philosophy; it is a theory from John Christensen; which was derived by placing cameras in fish market to study the behaviour of workers working actively. Building Bully- Free Workplace
