The Company of Women

Recently while browsing through the book shelf in library, I came across a book written by Khushwant Singh and after going through the synopsis I immediately got the book issued. It talks about how the protagonist loved being with women throughout his life. From the time he joined college for the entire life he enjoyed the company of women.

As the name suggests “The Company of Women” this book speaks about the lust and life of the protagonist; Mohan Kumar. As per his words he says he is not a sex-maniac but I don’t agree with the same as it was clearly shown in the way he lead his life all the time.

I wonder how one can be a womanizer throughout his life and sleep with number of women for his pleasure. A quite good lad from a poor family, with excellent education flies off to America with a scholarship to complete his studies. He was welcomed with all the warmth shown by his fellow classmates and in-turn he also gave much to the country in many forms. The very first time he slept with a girl from that land he loved the feeling and since then the cycle goes on and on. Soon in couple of months his interest falls on other women. To fulfill his lust for sex he never had a problem or hesitation to sleep with women from any caste, creed, color…he was proving well he wanted a WOMEN to sleep with.

With all this in mind he came back home to his old father and as per his advice he got married with a well pampered girl from a rich family. At very first sight he always scanned the body of the girl and imagined how she will perform on bed.

After few hiccups he got married and his lust for sex started taking a wild form which resulted in a baby soon after the marriage. The lady and her family dint accepted his wild nature and left him on his own.

Soon the hunger for women body took shape in his mind and again he started his search for some one to sleep with. In this course he gave an advertisement in the newspaper for a companion and waited for reply. The lust was on such a peak that he dint even spared his maid servant and slept with him number of times.

The same continued till he got reply for his absurd advertisement in the newspaper and invited the lady and stayed with her for the next couple of months. The same continued till his object became life-less and not ready to accept action anymore. But the end was horrible; the day he realized that he broke down mentally and physically no one was there to sit for a while with him he look back in his life and realized what all he had done.

The end was BAD, with all his lust and hunger the protagonist end up having the virus called AIDS in his body and with a life-less object, a life-less mind, there died a life-less protagonist Mohan Kumar.

The author has used a fine language adding a taste of soft-porn which shows off how the hunger of body can eat up a life. I wonder how many people would be there in the world who live with this hunger in their life but end up having a bad stroll.

The story of the protagonist gives a mixed feeling to the readers and leaves a question mark in everyone’s mind as “To be or not to be”.
